Chasing Freedom: The Dream That Sparked Change
I always dreamt of a life with the freedom to move around, untethered from a desk—no matter how luxurious the office, it always felt like a cage.
The problem? I had no idea how to work remotely. I lacked any skill that could make it possible.
An Unexpected Breakthrough: My Father’s Online Store
Then, by luck, my father started an online store and asked for my help with ads. I knew nothing about Facebook Ads, but I jumped in. Within three days, we had our first sale. Fast forward a year: we’d completed over 1,000 orders. That was my first glimpse into the potential of digital marketing and social media.
A New Opportunity: The World of Books
Another twist of fate: I stumbled on a video of a woman talking about her Amazon book publishing business, claiming she earned up to $5,000 a month. Books have always fascinated me—I’m an avid reader—so I decided to give it a shot. Initially, I wanted to publish my own book, but didn’t have the time, so I offered my services on Fiverr instead. I’d bought a $97 book publishing software and wanted to recover my investment.
Building Momentum: From Fiverr to Upwork
Soon, orders started trickling in. A client reached out and gave me steady work. I began studying how digital books are published and marketed. Then I found a client on Upwork, and things started rolling.
Every month, I’d think, “Okay, this month was good, but what about the next?” When I first earned $2,000 in a single month, I was over the moon. Soon, I was touching $5,000 a month. I became a Top Rated Plus freelancer on Upwork. Since starting my freelancing journey in November 2022, I’ve worked with major publishing houses and authors, helping more than 30 authors become Amazon bestsellers. I’ve completed over 220 jobs on Upwork.
The Challenges and the Growth
The journey hasn’t been easy. Marketing is a tough job, and I’ve faced setbacks. But I kept learning every day through online courses, webinars, and staying updated with trends. I even founded A2ZPublishing to help authors market their books. When AI started reshaping the industry, I quickly integrated it into my workflow.
Living the Dream: Freedom at Last
What I love most is the freedom this career has given me. I went from static office work to a dynamic field where I can work from anywhere, anytime—even while on vacation with my family. Once, during a trip, I was interviewed on Zoom at Abu Dhabi International Airport—and got hired!
From Self-Doubt to Confidence
I was never a great public speaker, but my success gave me the confidence to lecture, appear on TV shows, and share my passion for what I do.
Advice to Aspiring Freelancers
My advice to everyone, young and old, is that persistence and patience always pay off. There’s no shortcut to hard work; you must give your best before expecting rewards.
And yes, I still wake up with a touch of impostor syndrome, wondering if my success is just a fluke. But that’s part of growth—because you should never assume you know it all.
